Madrasapattinam is a Tamil film starring Kamal Haasan, who also served as the producer for the project. The film received wide critical acclaim and became a sleeper hit at the box office. It was dubbed into Telugu and released in Andhra Pradesh as Aditya 369 and in Malayalam as Madrasapattinam (2011) Plot: Madrasapattinam is set against the backdrop of an oppressive regime in which an honest Police Officer suffers grave consequences for upholding his principles, while a corrupt colleague thrives. Nandan (Kamal Haasan) is an honest police officer with unbending principles. Determined to combat the rampant corruption around him, he clashes with the then Home Minister, K.K. Balachandran (Nassar). In a tragic turn of events, Nandan's pregnant wife is killed by K.K. Balachandran's son, Selvam (Ashwin Kakumanu), who is also the State Governor. A dejected Nandan leaves his job and takes to drinking. Seven years later, Nandan appears to have found his calling as a 'Robin Hood' like figure who steals from the rich and gives to the poor. He and his band of merry men rob truckloads of iron ore from an illegal mining mafia which is causing severe damage to the surrounding environment. The government, headed by Balachandran's friend, Home Minister Mayil Vaaganam (Vikram), is accused of turning a blind eye as this illegal mining mafia donates funds to their party fund. It is worse for Balachandran as he faces humiliation in his own party after the State wins the first round of assembly by-elections.
